About the Author

Elishiva Cook was born a United Methodist and grew up as a Pastor’s daughter.  She married a wonderful man who was spiritually restless and so her days as Methodist were over.  Together, Elishiva and her first husband, Randy searched for their congregational home to no avail.  They struggled mightily with the differences between church doctrine, particularly a Sunday Sabbath, and scriptural doctrine.  In the meantime they struggled with the lack of a child and a chronic genetic illness that afflicted her husband.

Their search led them to seek out Sabbatarian congregations in 1993, discovering a little congregation in Point Pleasant New Jersey which became home for a time.  Elishiva’s husband, with her full support, began training under the congregational leader for his Shimecha. Together they learned more about what it meant to follow Torah and God’s ways and to be grafted into the Olive tree of the Hebrews. During that time they were thrilled to welcome their son, Josiah after a long wait and keeping faith with God that He would give them a child- like Sarah and Abraham!  

After the birth of their son, they moved to Arkansas and discovered a like-minded congregation in Tikvah B’ Yeshua (Hope in Yeshua) in Jacksonville.  There they found deep roots among their Torah-keeping brothers and sisters. Sadly, only a few years after their son’s birth, Elishiva’s first husband passed away of Addison’s disease after struggling with it his entire life.  Elishiva’s congregation continued to be supportive of the tiny family as only brothers and sisters can do. Five years later, Elishiva met and Married her second husband, ironically also named Randy.  It was this relationship that gave birth to a new Torah-keeping congregation in her husband’s home town of Russellville, Arkansas as God called them to minister there.  Founded in 2006, Congregation Chiam B’ Derech is now a thriving Conservative Messianic Congregation in the heart of Arkansas.

Beth has had many experiences in her life to help her to help others as an Elder’s wife: Spiritual seeking, Chronic illness of a loved one, young widowhood, single motherhood, remarriage and melding families.  She studied Art therapy and Psychology for four years at the College of New Jersey and enjoyed a twenty-one year career in assisted living and Continuing Care Retirement Communities for the Elderly. She worked in that field until her second husband encouraged her to stay home and homeschool her son, Josiah. She is a founding member of the New Jersey Activity Professional’s Association, Serves in the Russellville Area Ministerial Association as Secretary, and is a co-founder of Congregation Chiam B’ Derech.  Beth is an artist and most enjoys textile arts, especially making banners and learning tools to use in the congregation to help illustrate scriptural principles. But her greatest vocation is learning about the scriptures, researching and writing about the “whys” of Jewish traditions and living in Torah. Beth’s greatest loves are her God and her Messiah, her husband Randy, Her son Josiah, her stepsons Joshua and Benjamin, Her stepdaughter Amanda and her eight (so far) grandchildren. She and her husband enjoy traveling whenever they get the chance.
 

Elishiva Cook nació como metodista unida y creció como hija de un pastor. Se casó con un hombre maravilloso que estaba espiritualmente inquieto y así terminaron sus días como metodista. Juntos, Elishiva y su primer esposo, Randy, buscaron en vano el hogar de su congregación. Lucharon mucho con las diferencias entre la doctrina de la iglesia, particularmente el sábado dominical, y la doctrina bíblica. Mientras tanto luchaban con la falta de un hijo y una enfermedad genética crónica que aquejaba a su esposo.

Su búsqueda los llevó a buscar congregaciones sabatarias en 1993 y descubrieron una pequeña congregación en Point Pleasant, Nueva Jersey, que se convirtió en su hogar por un tiempo. El esposo de Elishiva, con todo su apoyo, comenzó a entrenarse con el líder de la congregación para su Shimecha. Después del nacimiento de su hijo, se mudaron a Arkansas y descubrieron una congregación de ideas afines en Tikvah B' Yeshua (Esperanza en Yeshua) en Jacksonville. Allí encontraron profundas raíces entre sus hermanos y hermanas observadores de la Torá. Lamentablemente, solo unos años después del nacimiento de su hijo, el primer marido de Elishiva falleció a causa de la enfermedad de Addison después de luchar contra ella durante toda su vida. La congregación de Elishiva continuó apoyando a la pequeña familia como solo los hermanos y hermanas pueden hacerlo. Cinco años más tarde, Elishiva conoció y se casó con su segundo marido, irónicamente también llamado Randy. Fue esta relación la que dio origen a una nueva congregación que guarda la Torá en la ciudad natal de su esposo, Russellville, Arkansas, ya que Dios los llamó para ministrar allí. Fundada en 2006, la Congregación Chiam B' Derech es ahora una próspera Congregación Mesiánica Conservadora en el corazón de Arkansas.

Beth ha tenido muchas experiencias en su vida que la ayudaron a ayudar a otros como esposa de un anciano: búsqueda espiritual, enfermedad crónica de un ser querido, viudez joven, maternidad soltera, nuevo matrimonio y unión de familias. Estudió Arteterapia y Psicología durante cuatro años en la Universidad de Nueva Jersey y disfrutó de una carrera de veintiún años en vida asistida y Comunidades de Retiro de Cuidado Continuo para Ancianos. Trabajó en ese campo hasta que su segundo esposo la animó a quedarse en casa y educar en casa a su hijo, Josiah. Es miembro fundador de la Asociación de Profesionales de la Actividad de Nueva Jersey, sirve en la Asociación Ministerial del Área de Russellville como Secretaria y es cofundadora de la Congregación Chiam B' Derech. Beth es artista y disfruta más de las artes textiles, especialmente haciendo pancartas y herramientas de aprendizaje para usar en la congregación para ayudar a ilustrar los principios de las Escrituras. Pero su mayor vocación es aprender sobre las escrituras, investigar y escribir sobre los "porqués" de las tradiciones judías y vivir la Torá. Los mayores amores de Beth son su Dios y su Mesías, su esposo Randy, su hijo Josiah, sus hijastros Joshua y Benjamin, su hijastra Amanda y sus ocho (hasta ahora) nietos. Ella y su esposo disfrutan viajar cada vez que tienen la oportunidad.
